I couldn't resist buying these books in Rome. Jean-Patrick Manchette is a French crime novelist who has 2 books translated into English (Three to Kill and the Prone Gunman). Both are excellent, and I've been searching for more. None are scheduled to be released in English though, so when I saw these I jumped on them with the (misguided) idea that someday I'd try to translate them. At less than 200 pages each, there's a chance it could actually happen.
Regardless of whether that happens, they were worth it for the cover design.
